Terms of service
Terms of service
Last updated: October 26, 2026
These terms are a binding agreement between you and Sean Lewis, a sole proprietor doing business as Unlit ("Unlit", "we", "us"). They apply when you use this website, sign up for our emails, contact us, or buy from us. By using the site or placing an order, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Section 15 says disputes are resolved by individual arbitration, not in court or as a class action, unless you opt out within 30 days. Please read it.
1. Who can buy
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. We currently sell and ship only to addresses in the United States, including APO/FPO where the carrier allows. Products are for personal use, not resale.
2. Our products
- Not medical devices. Our sleep masks, Blackout Dots and Travel Blackout Shade are light-blocking accessories. They aren't intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or sleep disorder. If you have trouble sleeping, an eye condition, or recent eye surgery, talk to a doctor before use.
- Light blocking varies. Faces, nose shapes, windows and devices differ. We design for full blackout but don't promise zero light for every person or room.
- Fit varies. Masks are one size with an adjustable strap and fit most adult faces, not all. Comfort depends on your face, pillow and sleeping position.
- Adults only. Masks are made and sized for adults. Keep all products, straps, small parts, adhesive dots and suction cups away from children and pets.
- Use and care. Follow the care instructions on the product page. Stop using a product if it causes irritation, discomfort, pressure, or an allergic reaction. Materials are listed on each product page; check them if you have sensitivities.
- Surfaces. Blackout Dots use low-tack adhesive and the Travel Blackout Shade uses suction cups and hook-and-loop strips. Test on a small area first. Results depend on the surface, and we aren't responsible for residue, marks, or a shade falling. Don't cover vents, sensors, screens or warning lights you need to see, and don't use the shade where it blocks an emergency exit.
- Photos and descriptions. We try to show products accurately, but colors vary by screen, and some images, illustrations and renderings are representative rather than photos of the exact unit you'll receive. Measurements and weights are approximate.
3. Orders
Your order is an offer to buy. A contract forms when we ship it, not when you get an order confirmation or receipt. We may refuse, limit or cancel any order, for example for suspected fraud or resale, a pricing or listing error, or stock running out. If we cancel after you've paid, we refund you in full. We may limit quantities per person, household or order.
4. Prices and payment
Prices are in US dollars and can change at any time before you order. The total you pay, including shipping, optional package insurance, and any sales tax, is shown at checkout before you pay. If a price on the site is clearly wrong, we may cancel the order or contact you before shipping. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. By paying, you confirm you're authorized to use the payment method.
5. Offers and discounts
Bundle prices, free-shipping thresholds and any discount codes apply as described at the time of your order. They can't be combined unless we say so, have no cash value, and may end at any time. If you return part of a bundle or discounted order, the refund reflects the price you actually paid for that item.
6. Shipping and risk of loss
Shipping times, costs and details are in our Shipping policy, which is part of these terms. Delivery dates are estimates, not guarantees. Title and risk of loss pass to you when we hand your order to the carrier. Optional package insurance, bought at checkout, covers loss or damage in transit as described in the Shipping policy. Please check your address; we aren't responsible for orders sent to an address you entered incorrectly.
7. Returns, refunds and cancellations
Our Refund policy is part of these terms. In short: masks are final sale because they're worn on the face; Blackout Dots and the Travel Blackout Shade can be returned unopened and unused within 30 days of delivery; defective or incorrect items are replaced or refunded when reported within 14 days of delivery. If you dispute a charge with your bank instead of contacting us first, we may share order and delivery records with the payment processor to respond.
8. Emails and messages
If you sign up for emails, we'll send occasional messages about products, restocks and sleep tips. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. Order emails (receipts, tracking, support replies) are sent regardless, because they're part of your purchase. When you contact us, you agree we can reply by email.
9. Privacy
How we collect and use personal information is described in our Privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
10. Reviews and content you send us
If you send us a review, photo, message or idea, you confirm it's yours to share and honest, and you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual license to use, edit lightly for length or clarity, and display it in connection with Unlit, including with your first name and last initial. We won't change its meaning. We may decline or remove content that is false, offensive, unlawful, or not about the product. Don't send us anything confidential.
11. Using the site
The site's text, design, logos, photos and code belong to Unlit or our licensors and are protected by law. You may use the site to browse and shop for yourself. You may not copy or resell our content, scrape the site, interfere with its security or operation, use it for anything unlawful, or place fraudulent orders. Links to other sites (such as Stripe or a carrier's tracking page) are for convenience; we don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them. The site may be unavailable at times, and we may change or remove products and features without notice.
12. Warranty disclaimer
Except for the remedies in our Refund policy and anything we're required by law to provide, the site and all products are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that a product will improve your sleep or that the site will be error-free. Some states don't allow these disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Unlit and its owners, employees, suppliers and partners won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or sleep, arising from the site or any product, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the product involved. These limits don't apply to liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
14. Indemnity
You agree to cover our reasonable losses and legal costs from claims by others that result from your misuse of a product or the site, your breach of these terms, or content you send us.
15. Disputes and arbitration
Talk to us first. Most problems are solved by contacting us. Before starting a claim, send us a written description of the problem and what you want, by email to unlitcontanct@gmail.com or through our contact form. We'll both try in good faith to resolve it within 60 days.
Individual arbitration. If we can't resolve it, any dispute arising from these terms, the site or our products will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration may be held by video or phone, or in the county where you live. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
No class actions. You and Unlit each bring claims only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action. If this waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim goes to court, not arbitration.
Opting out. You can opt out of arbitration by emailing unlitcontanct@gmail.com within 30 days of first accepting these terms, with your name, email and a statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out doesn't affect anything else in these terms.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the state where you live.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The "Last updated" date shows when. Changes apply to orders placed and site use after they're posted; the terms in effect when you placed an order apply to that order.
18. Other terms
- Entire agreement. These terms and the policies they link to are the whole agreement between us about the site and your purchases.
- Severability. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
- Events outside our control. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as carrier delays, weather, supplier problems, or outages.
- Assignment. We may transfer these terms to a buyer or successor of the business, including a company formed to run Unlit. You may not transfer them without our consent.
19. Contact
Unlit is operated by Sean Lewis, a sole proprietor based in Colorado. Email unlitcontanct@gmail.com or use our contact form for questions about these terms or an order.
